Celebrating 200 Years of History in 2020

Tour 1 of Eastern Perry County


This tour starts at Liverpool and ends in Little Buffalo State Park.  Along the way you will travel from Liverpool through Phoutz Valley to Millerstown and then to Newport along the Juniata River and finally Little Buffalo State Park.  Historical sites of interest along the way include:

The Red Bridge covered bridge just outside Liverpool,

The Cochran-Anspach House in Millerstown

Historical Markers in Millerstown for the Rippman Tannery and the Millerstown Canal

Historical Markers in Newport (Go to Regions then Newport for additional details)

Fleisher’s Bridge covered bridge just outside of Newport

And finally Clay’s Bridge covered bridge at Little Bufalo State Park

The driving time for this tour is approximately XXX minutes plus the amount of time stopping at points of interest.

Restroom facilities on this route.  Unfortunately there is only one public restroom facility on this tour at Little Bufalo State Park.  Businesses along the tour will allow use of their restroom facilities to paying customers but do not in general allow use of the facilities without a purchase.

Perry County Heritage Trail

The Perry County Bicentennial Committee is happy to be involved with the research and writing of much of the content of the history of Perry County. The committee has been instrumental in working with sponsors to procure and install the markers as shown in this Heritage Trail website.
