Newport High School Quilt 1

Newport High School Quilt 1
13West Short Cut Road, Newport PA
(Behind Pinnacle Health Building)

The quilt star represents the North Star that drew Indians and settlers to the Newport
area. The two shades of blue symbolize the color of sky and water. The bright yellow
signifies the stars in the night sky. The exterior border is a Seminole Patchwork design,
developed by Seminole tribe’s women in Florida during the early 1990’s, and quickly
adopted by quilters around the country. It is used to symbolize the indigenous people
who lived here before the settlers and the shade of green illustrates the many trees in
the area.
