1940 Stone Monument
The monument recognizes the Dispatch Riders from the War of 1812 who passed through Newport crossing the Juniata River at the ford where the present day bridge is located. The riders where taking messages from Washington DC to the US Army in New York.
In June 2015 the monument was moved from its origianal location near the old PRR Station along Market St at Kauffman’s Gagrage to its new location in the Newport Heritage Park.
